I have always had bikes with center stands for obvious reasons. So how would one support an SRAD to remove the swinging arm? No I am not prepared to hang it from the garage roof :p

Something like this CENTER STAND (PINS NOT INCLUDED) - Bike-Lift

Thanks for this. I have recently seen an Abba stand which looks good, same principal I think. The thing is that it uses the swing arm pivot so how do you remove the swing arm?

(Is there only you and me on here Underdog?)

When I swapped the arm and rear shock on a Hornet with no center stand I used a scissor jack and the side stand. I put a ziptie around the front brake lever and slackened everything before using the jack. I have seen it done with the bike on both a front and rear paddock stand, rear wheel removed, swing arm and shock mounts loosend, then the back of the bike frame was lifted on to axle stands, rear paddock stand removed and then the arm and shock was taken out, it was more stable than the scissor jack method.

Haha, trust me there are other members, they just watch and read but they're there :)

Thanks for these ideas, Underdog. I have banked them in my memory. Luckily the MOT man did not mention swinging arm bearing play this time around so all good for now ;)

Somewhat old thread now I know, but in case you haven't discovered this already Abbastands do a kit that allows you to remove the swingarm using the basic stand

I use a front stand and a jack on the engine (put some wood in there). The front stand will give stability while the jack will support the bike to remove the swing arm. Or you can just buy those fancy jack stands that lifts the entire motorcycle..
