The Tyco Security Products brand was in it, right until the very end, having just completed a thrilling and successful season partnering with TAS Racing in the British Superbike Championship.
Spearheaded by talented Australian rider Josh Brookes, Tyco Suzuki came up just short on the final day at Brands Hatch, eventually taking second place in the 2012 series after an impressive twenty podiums from the twenty-six races this season.
Despite eventual champion Shane Byrne denying Brookes and Tyco Suzuki top spot, the Northern Ireland based team managed a crash free season; also free of mechanical problems, which is a real testament to their overall preparation, execution and focus.
Tyco has been an avid participant in the British motorbike scene for the past couple of years, but has enjoyed a successful opening season at the sharp end in British Superbike after teaming with TAS Racing of Moneymore, Northern Ireland – the official factory racing team for Suzuki Great Britain.
Philip Neill, team manager, said: “Although we are obviously a little disappointed not to deliver the British Superbike Championship for Suzuki, Tyco and our associated partners, I am immensely proud of my team and, of course, Josh, for what has been a superb season of racing. Josh and his crew have a one hundred percent finish record this season; the only rider within the championship Showdown to achieve this.”
American sensation PJ Jacobsen was snapped up by the team in the latter part of the season to compete in the British Superstock and Supersport series. The 19-year-old New Yorker posted impressive back-to-back victories at Donington Park and Assen in the Netherlands; also recording additional podiums at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.
Northern Irishman Alastair Seeley was Brookes’ team-mate this season in British Superbike, taking an opening day podium at Brands Hatch, but his biggest success came ‘between the hedges’ at the International North West 200: the diminutive Ulsterman, affectionately known as the ‘Wee Wizard’, took three wins from six podiums in front of 100,000 adoring fans on the Northern Ireland’s picturesque Antrim Coastline.
Of course, team Tyco Suzuki couldn’t have been as successful as it was without the ongoing support of its consortium partners: WOT Security Group, Beacon Security, Norbain, First City Care and IFSEC, whose logos were proudly displayed alongside Tyco’s on the immaculately prepared blue-and-white liveried GSX-R Suzuki machinery.
Looking ahead, TAS Racing is pleased to welcome back Josh Brookes for a third consecutive season. The New South Wales based Aussie will race in Tyco Suzuki colours for a second year, as he looks to capture the 2013 in British Superbike and the coveted number one plate.
In summing up, the final words were left to team manager Philip Neill, who said: “It really was an amazing season. Now it’s a matter of coming back and challenging for the top spot once again in 2013.”
