Suzuki provided some of the biggest and best attractions at this year’s Motorcycle Live at the NEC, showcasing a whopping*13 new models for 2017.
One of the most anticipated bikes of the show was the all-new GSX-R1000R, which brought show-goers in their droves onto the stand, while three-time British Superbike champion and test rider John Reynolds was on hand to talk about his role and the new bike’s spec.
The base model GSX-R1000 also featured, while Suzuki’s updated adventure range boasted the new V-Strom 1000 and 1000XT, V-Strom 650 and 650XT, as well as the brand new V-Strom 250. Suzuki’s small capacity range is also bolstered for 2017, with*everyone from new riders to commuters trying the GSX250R, GSX-R125, and GSX-S125 for size on the stand.
The GSX-S125 was also joined by the new GSX-S750, the two new models expanding the GSX-S lineup, while there was also a new Burgman 400 and Burgman 200 broadening Suzuki’s scooter range.
But it wasn’t just the new models that made up the Suzuki stand at the show, with the Japanese marquee providing plenty of other reasons to visit, including the chance to experience 60° of lean onboard a special GSX-RR MotoGP machine, which proved to be one of the most popular features of the whole show, with thousands of visitors having their picture taken and uploaded to the Suzuki Bikes UK Facebook page.
Over the last two years at Motorcycle Live Suzuki has highlighted it’s extensive parts supply and support services by building a TL1000 from brand new parts in 2014, while last year saw an original GSX-R750F restored to its former glory over the course of the show.
For 2016’s show*Team Classic Suzuki, supported by Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme, built the Katana endurance racer they will race in the 2017 Endurance Legends event at Donington Park. The build was also documented on video, here.
2016 marked 40 years since Barry Sheene won his maiden world title onboard a Suzuki XR14, and Suzuki celebrated the anniversary with an impressive display of memorabilia, from leathers and helmets to Sheene’s actual winners’ medals. There was also an equally impressive collection of Sheene’s race bikes on display, including the genuine championship winning machines from 1976 and 1977. The display also made up part of Suzuki’s hospitality area, which was serving free teas and coffees to show-goers for the duration of the show, adjacent to the Suzuki shop that was selling the latest in merchandise from Suzuki’s 2017 collections.
Suzuki’s new GSX-R1000R will contest the British Superbike championship in the hands of Hawk Racing, with backing from renowned insurance specialist Bennetts, with the team announcing the signing of Sylvain Guintoli on the show’s final weekend. The former World Superbike champion was then on hand to sign autographs and meet fans on the Suzuki stand.
The event saw an increase in visitors by 2.4% over last year’s show, with Suzuki’s impressive display of features and new models signalling that a busy and exciting 2017 is in store.
