Hi,

I've been searching the web but sadly can't find an answer, I'm in need of an expert! I've bought a 1993 GSX-R 1100 WP, great bike but not one I know a great deal about and as they're getting on a bit, not a lot of info on them. The bike is completely standard, only done 23,000 miles, seems to have spent most of it's time in garages, still has the original twin exhausts! not had any modifications. I've had the carbs cleaned, rebuilt and balanced, then put on a rolling road.

My question;

The output on the rolling road was 125 bhp - stock. What info I've been able to find online suggested 155 bhp? I have heard that some bikes of the time were restricted (four plugs in the carbs), is my bike still restricted or is this the best it can do without specialist tuning?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JezzR,
Depends what figures you are referring to. If the 155 bhp is the claim from the manufacturer, that will be at the crank not the back wheel. Generally you will lose around 15% between the crank and the back wheel due to loses in the gearbox, drive train, water and fuel pumps and of course battery charging.
If it is 155 at the crank as I suspect then 125 at the wheel is not far off given other power losses due to the age of the bike in addition to the ones I've already mentioned.
Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I had a GSXR1100 a while back and it was a great bike to ride and could hold its own on a track day.

Hi,

Sorry, only just seen your response, thanks for your advice. Can you tell me much about exhausts? Does 4:2:1 make much difference to horsepower?
